Marinduque 2015

You guys are probably wondering, "where on Earth is Marinduque?!"
It's actually one of our provinces! We visit our relatives there every once in a while.

Marinduque is called The Heart of the Philippines because of two reasons: first, the tiny island is heart-shaped and second, it is, in its literal sense, the heart or the center of the country! The place has so much to offer – there are wonderful beaches and mountains, the people are extremely friendly, and you will find yourself admiring the old-looking houses and establishments. Aside from that, it's not a mainstream vacation spot!

To go to Marinduque, one would have to go by sea. Yup, there is no other way but to ride a ferry! If you’re coming from Manila, ride a bus going to the Dalahican Pier in Lucena City, and then hop on the ferry. Travel time is around 7-8 hours.

We usually go to Marinduque during the Moriones Festival, but this year, we went for a week-long event to celebrate Flores de Mayo, also a festival in the Philippines. I don't have a lot of photos during our stay, but here are some of the shots my Dad took during and after the procession!

LOL, THAT'S ME! I've always wanted to participate in this festival but man, getting that kind of attention just wasn't for an awkward girl like me. I also despised walking around the municipality of Boac, the provincial capital of Marinduque, in 5-inch heels! You guys need to understand there were parts of Boac that made me feel like I was trekking but hey, the experience was definitely worth it.

The next day, we went to the beach... To take pictures! It was too hot to stay under the sun and we had to get ready for our trip back to Manila.

This year's visit was heart-achingly short but believe me, every minute was well-spent.
'Til next time, Marinduque!
